Southern Tussock Moth Life Cycle
Dasychira meridionalis

This is the caterpillar of the Southern Tussock Moth
Very fuzzy!
The spines are a skin irritant and should not be hand handled.
I believe he came from my Oak Tree.
I found him crawling around on my patio.

He made this cocoon on a rag I had in the back yard.

Here is the moth after emerging from the cocoon. 12/19/2010
So,it was cocooned for about 10 days.
This is a male.
The females have no wings!
